Smyrna: A Small City with Big Town Charm
Smyrna is a mid-sized city that's only a short distance away from Nashville communities. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Smyrna had a population of just fewer than 40,000 during the 2010 census. It encompasses more than 23 square miles of area, most of which is land. The water area within the city limits of Smyrna consists of Percy Priest Lake, Stone's River and Stewart's Creek.

Smyrna is home to a thriving economy thanks to RegionsAir and Capital Air both having their headquarters here. It is also home to a Nissan manufacturing facility that currently employs more than 4,400 people. Other top employers here in Smyrna include Asurion Communications, Vi-Jon personal care products and Stonecrest Medical Center. Since it's only a short drive from Nashville, many people commute to the state's capital daily, where they find employment in government and the entertainment industry.

Smyrna is part of the Rutherford County School District, and is home to five elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools. Private education is also available through Summit Christian Academy. Adults will find it easy to continue their education by attending one of several institutions including Austin Peay College, Bellmont College, and Motlow State Community College.

Since it is close to several bodies of water, Smyrna is an excellent place to take up boating and fishing activities. This town also offers a public fitness center that includes an Olympic-sized swimming pool. This fitness center is located in the town center, and is open to members of the general public. The city operates 10 scenic parks, which can be reserved for special events. Many of them contain barbeque grills, walking trails, picnic pavilions and playgrounds. In addition, there are over seven miles of greenway trails located within the city, an outdoor water park and a public golf course.

Most people will find their daily commute to be less than 30 minutes and getting to medical appointments and facilities is relatively hassle free.
